New Network
To Debut In May

New York — A newly-
formed television network of-
fering Jewish entertainment,
educational and news pro-
gramming, will debut in May
on cable systems and UHF
channels throughout the
United States and Canada.
The Jewish Broadcasting
Network (JBN), will air some
18 hours a week of programm-
ing to an estimated two million
viewers.
Regularly scheduled pro-
grams slated for the network
will include a weekly news, in-
formation and cultural maga-
zine from Israel; The Jewish
Entertainment Hour, a celeb-

rity program, JBN News-
watch, a nightly half-hour
newscast and interview pro-
gram; Shalom America, a Sun-
day news and interview maga-
zine; Kosher Cuisine a cooking
program, and instructional
Hebrew language programs for
pre-school children and adults.

Israel Radio

Israel radio broadcasts to the
Detroit area, with the latest
news from Israel and the Mid-
dle East, plus a variety of pro-
grams on life in Israel. Broad-
cast times and frequencies are
as follows: 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9
p.m. on 9435, 7464 and 7410
kHz; and at midnight on
11585, 9815, 9435 and 7464
kHz.

History Society
Meeting Slated

Edwin Shifrin will speak on
the "Americanization of Euro-
pean Thought Adapted to
American Life" for the Jewish
Historical Society of Michigan
on March 18 at 7:45 p.m. in the
Friedman Room of the main
United Hebrew Schools build-
ing.
Before his retirement, Shif-
rin was a welding engineer at
Detroit Edison. Currently he is
chairman of the Midrasha and
president of Branch 460 of
Workmen's Circle and an
active member of Sholem
Aleichem Institute.
Refreshments will be served.
There is no charge, and guests
are welcome.

Ileitis, Colitis
Program Nears

The Michigan Chapter of the
National Foundation for Ileitis
and Colitis is beginning a six-
week mutual self-help pro-
gram on Monday. The program
is designed for patients with
inflammatory bowel disease,
their families and friends.
The groups are divided as
follows: adolescents and young
adults, family members of
patients, people who have had
or are contemplating surgery,
newly diagnosed patients,
female patients and male
patients.

Topic of Discussion

There will be a panel discus-
sion on "Jews and Liberalism,"
at an Oneg Shabbat following 8
p.m. services, today at Temple
Beth Jacob, 79 Elizabeth Lake
