LISTENING POST

DANNY RASKIN

WHAT DOES A GUY write

about when he becomes a
grandfather for the first time?
. . . Can't tell about the baby
because I haven't seen him yet
. . . Matthew Joshua Raskin
doesn't know me and I don't
know him, so we're even .. .
Son Scott and daughter-in-law
Bonnie live in Marietta, Ga.
outside of Atlanta.
I do know that little Matt
was named after my mother,
Minnie Raskin . . . and that he
came early so as to enter the
world same day that his
great-grandmother and
great-grandfather were mar-
ried back on Feb. 22, 1910.
Scott says he looks like me
. . . Bonnie says he looks like
Scott . . . I really don't think at
this moment that Matt much
cares about who he looks like
. . . As far as I'm concerned, all
that counts is that Matthew is
a very healthy young boy.
Can Matthew talk yet? .. .
Are you kidding? . . . Cer-
tainly, even though just a
couple of weeks old . . . He's a
Raskin, isn't he? . . . Scott held
the phone while Bonnie put on
Matt's pajamas . . . and he said
"Hi grandpa" in his own word-
s"Waa Waa ugh."
GET WELL WISHES . . . to
Kay Bostick . . . home re-
cuperating after knee surgery
at William Beaumont Hospi-
tal.
"I DO" DEPT. . . . Stan
Krandall of Sidney Krandall &
Sons Jewelers, and Constance
Hillier . . . July 30 at Temple
Beth El . . . David Kersch of
Metro Passbook and Debbie
DeBouvrie . . . last week, by
Rabbi Harold Loss in atrium of
Prudential Town Center .. .
Dr. Debra Kemper to Mark
Goodman of California, Aug.
23.
MARCH PROMOTION by
Ron Elkus' Shirt Box on Ten
Mile aids Metropolitan Detroit
Youth Foundation . . . All
shirts, ties and socks donated
help young folks find job oppor-
tunities that require dressing
up . . . getting them off the
streets . . . No matter what
shape, Ron will knock off
healthy trade-in on purchases
til March 16.

JEAN
CARLA
SCHWARTZ, fashion head of
The Jewish News, writes .. .

"Hino and Malee, fashion de-
signers, recently personally in-
troduced their spring '87 line
at Roz & Sherm. Dynamite de-
nims, sleek knits and Italian
silks were part of the terrific
line-up. Colors of red, white,
black and three shades of green
highlighted the show. Many
outfits had full, long coats to
match. New look was short
pants just below the knee.
Watch for more fashion details
in the Spring Fashion Supple-
ment of The Jewish News corn-
ing the week of March 23."

FASHION SHOW AND
LUNCHEON at Rochester

Community House, Ludlow
and Rochester Rd., is April 7,
12:30 p.m. . . . $10 ticket price
goes to United Scleroderma
Foundation . . . That's a rela-
tively unknown connective tis-
sue disease afflicting 300,000
Americans . . . No cause or cure
has been determined as yet.
JOKE DEPT. . . . from Hy
Pritz . . . "Someone asked me,
`How was your weekend?' I
said, 'It was for the birds! I
stood on the lawn and fed them
breadcrumbs.' Another person
asked if I was burning the can-
dle at both ends. 'No,' I said,
'just on the wick ends.' "
40-YEAR-REUNION of
Central High, 1947 class, has
its dinner-dance June 14 at
Sheraton-Oaks in Novi .. .
Contact Gladys "Gigi"
Kemper, 353-7685, or write to
. . . Class of '47, 23255 Edin-
burgh, Southfield, Mi. 48034.
DISA 'N DATA . . . Em-
bassy Suites is a very imposing
sight off Northwestern Hwy.
. . . Wish they'd take down that
empty former Ark West Lanes
building there . . . Its an eye-
sore .. .
Tamara Friedman, bossgal
of Tamara's Institute de Be-
aute, Northwestern near 14
Mile, has it easy at home with
hubby Eugene Friedman .. .
Recent dinner-party for her
mother, Clara Lechner, and
Eugene did all the cooking, ex-
cept for a few things brought in
by friends . . . Eugene is a won-
derful person .. .
Next two fashion shows by
Leah Marks will be by Adat
Shalom Synagogue Sisterhood
May 5 . . . and Cong. Shaarey
Zedek Sisterhood May 27 .
Remember Richard Carlson,
manager at former Merrick's
in American Center Bldg. on
Franklin? . . . He's still at the
building . . . and is manager of
that American Center Cafe
cafeteria directly across from
Rikki's . . . Dick is a whiz with
showers and bar mitzvahs .. .
and has private afternoon
space for parties up to 70 .. .
Speaking of catering, what a'
fabulous job being done by new
owner Al Balooly and Donna
Rosen, banquet and catering
director at Jacque's on Tele-
graph .. .
John Darakjian Jewelers fi-
nally has it's outside sign at
Franklin Center Bldg.,

D.D.S. will celebrate his 25th
year of dentistry in Clauson .. .

family gathering . . . He'll be
inviting his entire practice .. .
over 1,500 families to join in
the celebration! . . . All are in-
vited for lunch, ice cream and
cake . . . plus music, clowns,
etc. . . . Will be at Elks Lodge
on Big Beaver.
