Megillah Reading,
Carnival Planned
Adat Shalom Synagogue
will have a family Megillah
reading at 7:30 p.m. March 14
in the main sanctuary.
Reading the Megillah will be
Bradley Dock, Jonathan Blatt,

Children should come dres-
sed in Purim costumes.
On March 15 at 11 a.m., the
congregation will hold its an-
nual Purim carnival in the

Sudan Detained
Ethiopian Jews
Tel Aviv (JTA) — Sudanese
authorities have recently de-
tained 54 Ethiopian Jews who
crossed the border into Sudan,
according to a Sudanese news-
paper which was quoted in Is-
rael by Al Hamishmar. The
Sudanese paper, All-Ittihad
Al-Asbui, reported that the
supervisor of refugee affairs in
Sudan said the country's secu-
rity authorities will continue
to hold the Ethiopian Jews
until a decision is made regard-
ing their fate.

Team Wins
New York — Israel's na-
tional volleyball team made a
successful tour of Southern
California in January, win-
ning six of seven matches
against top college squads and
gaining competitive experi-
ence unavailable any other
way.
Promoted by Phil Blazer of
the Israel Today Media Group
and the United States Com-
mittee Sports for Israel, and
with the hospitality of Israeli
friends and relatives, the team
made its first training trip out-
side Israel.
Volleyball and soccer are the
most popular sports in Israel,
yet soccer teams have had
more opportunity for foreign
travel. The national volleyball
team participates in the Euro-
pean Cup, where it ranges in
the second tier, ninth to 16th.
The national club champion
may end up a little higher in
the home-and-home series
with other national club
champions.
