protect us, with everything
in jeopardy ... in my view
Zionism as it is lived today is
but a profanation of the

Mann Auditorium:
Tribute To Patron

0 -

o-

When, in 1957, hundreds of
us went to Israel to participate
in the dedication of the Mann
Auditorium, we were intro-
duced to its major patron
whose name was being hon-
ored with the introduction to
Israel and world Jewry of a
center that was to become a
leader in sponsoring the musi-
cal arts.
Frederick Mann's death last
week in Philadelphia, at the
age of 83, recalls his charm
with which he hosted the Mann
Auditorium in inaugural
events and the functions in
which world dignitaries par-
ticipated. It was occasion for
acclaim for the man who was
the patron of the arts and espe-
cially his encouragement to
musicians in his home city of
Philadelphia.
Frederick Mann, the philan-
thropic benefactor of many
'causes in this country and in
Israel, gained national recog-
nition as an active citizen by
being named ambassador to
Barbados by President
Johnson. He served in that post
from 1967 to 1969. It was one of
many roles he fulfilled. His re-
cord of many services is re-
called with appreciation.

German Guide

New York — The editors of
Fodor's Germany West and
East have rewritten a section
on Germany's national
socialist regime followng a
complaint by the Anti-
Defamation League of B'nai
B'rith that it made light of the
destruction of European Jewry
undr Adolf Hitler.
Following a description of
Hitler's efforts to achieve
German economic and military
recovery shortly after he took
power in 1933, the passage
said:
(Hitler's)
anti-
"His
Semitism caused the expulsion
or flight of a hugh number of
artists and intellectuals, not
all of them Jews. While disas-
trous for Germany, at least this
had the effect of disseminating
German culture in England,
France and, above all, in the
United States."
