Dr. Lawrence Power

Dr. Lawrence Power will
speak on "Diet, Fitness and
Nutrition," as part of Temple
Israel's Art Fair '87, 1 p.m.
Monday at the temple.
Dr. Power is a professor of
medicine at Wayne University
School of Medicine. He is the
director of the Metabolic Cen-
ter in Southfield. He is the
author of two books and 27 sci-
entific papers on diabetes and
health care. He is the publisher
of National Health Systems'
educational charts, school kits
and games.
His other credentials include
post-doctoral training at St.
Joseph's Hospital, London,
Ont.; residency at Middlesex
Hospitals in London, England;
and a Fellowship in
endocrinology and metabolism
at the University of Michigan.

Arabic Science
Is Symposium Topic

The department of Near
Eastern and Asian studies of
Wayne State University will
sponsor a four-part symposium
on "Muslims, Christians and
Jews: The Shaping of Culture
in the 'Golden Age' of the Near
East."
The first speaker will be
Prof. George Saliba of Colum-
bia University. He will present
two illustrated lectures:
"Arabic Science and the
Classical tradition", 4 p.m.
Wednesday in Room 226 of
WSU's Manoogian Hall and:
"The Role of the Arabic Scien-
tific Tradition in Medieval
Times," 7:30 p.m. Thursday, in
Room 115 of the Parks and
Recreation Buiding, South-
field Civic Center, 26000
Evergreen.

Subsequent lectures will be
given April 8.
The symposium is made po-
ssible through a grant of the
American Arabic-Jewish
friends of Greater Detroit.
Admission is free.
