S10 BLAZER
Germans, not Poland, de-
stroyed Polish Jewry.
Poland was the first and only
occupied country to offer resis-
tance to the Nazis. They did not
collaborate with the Germans
as did the Austrians, Hunga-
rians and Rumanians. While
anti-Semitism was widespread
in Poland (where wasn't it?),
one must remember that Jews
came to live in Poland because
that was the only place where
they were tolerated. Poland
was known as the land of the
heretics. What other country
offered sanctuary to the Jews?
Dr. Leib says "don't visit Po-
land" is his three-word sum-
mary of his four-day trip to Po-
land. He should go back for a
longer trip, and he and other
Jews should, from time to time,
have a good word to say about
Poland.
Ralph Slovenko
every positive sign sees a ruse
without giving recognition to
the fact that Poland is not a
free country and her people
bravely defy our mutual
enemy. He saw what he
wanted to see .. .
In my heart, being anti-
Jewish is equally wrong as
being anti-Polish or anti-
Italian. How a man, a child of
one God, can hate a brother
man simultaneously enjoying
the right of the constitution of
this land?
At one time in Poland our
spiritual leadership sent a con-
troversial message to a nation
that caused us so much pain
and suffering: "We forgive and
we ask forgiveness."
I'm filled with hope in a ma-
ture, unbiased dialogue based
on the truth and mutual re-
spect.

As an astounded reader of
one of your recent editions I
feel deeply obliged to voice
opinion to an act of aggression
on Poland: (the Op-Ed "Don't
Visit Poland").
This arrogant lampoon does
not give any consideration to
the feelings of your readers;
nor does it bring anything con-
structive to the Polish-Jewish
dialogue which, although not
easy, is going on mostly with
the noble effort of people of
good will on both sides, and
trials like Mr. Leib's letter
cannot and ought not derail it
As a Pole I assure your
readers that we have deep
knowledge of the past which
has braided the fate of Polish
and Jewish peoples. We know
the tragic events that had hap-
pened and no one denies them.
I'm not about to argue with
the contents of (the article).
One simply cannot walk all
over the honor of a nation
whose freedom has been fought
for throughout centuries with
millions of heroes who have
paid the ultimate price.
It was not by coincidence
that millions of Jews found
themselves in the boundaries
of Poland. They fled there from
centuries of persecution in
Europe. . . .
In the history of Poland one
can't find one (example) of
mass expulsions of Jews as it
was in England, France and
Switzerland, whose monarchs
passed decrees to ban Jews
forever. Even ghettos were not
originated in Poland, but the
first one was (created) in Ven-
ice in 1516.
I do not want to overlook the
shameful acts towards the
Jewish community on the
Polish soil, and they deserve
condemnation along with their
perpetrators. But I cannot
come to terms with a person
who seems to have the "facts"
prepared beforehand and in

No Help For
Talking Books
During recent weeks a
number of Jewish weeklies
have received and published
news releases from a Rabbi
Rubin R. Dobin concerning the
free distribution of "Talking
Books" of Jewish interest pu-
blished by the Jewish Braille
Institute of America.
Rabbi Dobin is associated
with an organization known as
Cong. Kol Yisroel Chaverim.
His press releases implied that
"generous contributors" to
Cong. Kol Yisroel Chaverim
had made possible the free dis-
tribution.
Please be informed that the
Jewish Braille Institute of
America has no funding or
formal relationship with Rabbi
Dobin or the Cong. Kol Yisroel
Chaverim. While we inform
rabbis of our program, they are
not authorized to collect funds
for or to distribute JBI "Talk-
ing Books." All of our mate-
rials are free of charge and are
available from JBI to all who
need them.
