(313) 355-1000 (313) 355-6414 Tillie Brandwine will be honored at a testimonial dinner on June 24 at Cong Shaarey Zedek, sponsored by the Jewish National Fund. Born Matilda Biber, Mrs. Brandwine attended the United Hebrew Schools, was graduated from Northern High School, and took her first job in 1932 typing for a group of four attorneys. In 1937, she married Morris Jacob Brandwine, with whom this year she is celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary. They have a daughter, two sons, and five grandchildren. When her children were still infants, Mrs. Brandewine joined Hadassah, became president of the Russell Woods East group, and then vice president of fund raising. By 1950 she was active in the Women's Division of the Jewish Welfare Federation and in 1962 was named Volun- teer of the Week for more than a decade of service to the JWF. This award was followed in 1970 by the Israel Bonds Woman of Valor medal. Mrs. Brandewine served as campaign chairman for the Women's Division in 1971 and 1972 and presided as chairman of the division the next year. She also was chairman of the Culture and Education Di- vision of the JWF. In this post she became the first woman to chair a budgeting division. During her many years of involvement in Jewish causes, Tillie Brandwine Mrs. Brandewine has been vice president of the Jewish Family Service and helped organize the nursing home visiting pro- gram. She has been elected to the national board of the Women's Division of the United Jewish Appeal and of the Joint Distribution Com- mittee. In 1981, she co-chaired the General Assembly Council of Jewish Federations. In 1986, she co-chaired the open house celebrating 60 years of the JWF. Presently, she is vice president of the board of Jewish Federation Apart- ments.
