1940s trivia mavens . . . You
kow that Club LaSalle was
Central High's nationally rec-
ognized (and maybe the first)
student nightclub during
World War II . . . Sure, you
know it was created to give re-
stless teens a wholesome place
to channel their "wild" energy
. . . lest they become, heaven
forbid, "juvenile delinquents"
. . . That's easy . . . But let's get
serious . . . Who were the Club
LaSalle emcees? (no points for
mentioning Jimmy Lipton and
Al Vinocur; any Central grad
of the time knows that) .. .
Who were some of the student
floor show acts? . . . How often
was the club opened, and for
how many years? . . . Which
night of the week and where
did it take place?
If you know the answers,
don't tell me . . . call Florence
LoPatin . . . When she heard
that the posh new Embassy
Suites Hotel in Southfield was
naming one of its fun spots
LaSalle's Nightclub, Florence
had a brainstorm . .. Why not
try to bring the old Club
LaSalle back for one
nostalgia-filled night in the
brand-new nightclub? . . . She
contacted the hotel's owners
for permission to use the room
. . . and got it . . . But F`O
realized a lot more had to be
done . . . With the help of some
friends, a committee was setup
to get the project started .. .
And now they need your help.
If you have any information
about the people and/or history
of Club LaSalle, get in touch
. . . So far, • they managed to
reach Al Vinocur, who was de-
lighted with the idea . . . The
Southfield adman agreed to
recreate his emcee role if
enough of the original acts and
participants can be found .. .

snippets for her not-so-trivial
pursuit back to the future .. .
