Snider has also been an
active volunteer with the
Jewish Welfare Federation
where she trains campaign
workers.
In addition, Snider has
served the American Red
Cross, a Torch Drive supported
agency, Jewish Federation
Apartments and Israel Bonds.
For 26 years, Miles has been
involved with the Interna-
tional Institute, a Torch
Drive-supported agency, who
nominated her for the Heart of
Gold. She helps the institute
promote ethnicity through the
various cultural exhibits that
she creates.
As an art teacher for 42
years at Highland Park Com-
munity College, Miles has
enriched the community by
using art to educate people
about cultures outside their
own. She has used art for over
40 years as a tool for intercul-
tural communication.
Miles, who is a painter, pup-
peteer, exhibits creator and
doll maker continues to use art
as a tool for intercultural
communication.

were among the honorees at
the United Foundation 20th
annual Heart of Gold award
luncheon last week at Cobo
Hall.
Both recipients were given a
gold heart-shaped charm bear-
ing the Spirit of Detroit
emblem "in recognition of vol-
untary services performed
through cultural and civic ac-
tivities."
Snider, who was nominated
for the Heart of Gold by the
Sinai Hospital Guild serves the
guild as vice president of fund
raising and is a member of
Sinai Hospital's future plan-
ning committee.
While president of the guild
she initiated the newborn nur-
sery project, which is an infant
nurturing program staffed
entirely by volunteers. Snider
also started and expanded pro-
grams to serve the commu-
nity's elderly shut-ins.
Volunteer involvement for
Snider began at the age of 10
when she became active with
Hadassah. In 1968, she became
the first president of Hadas-
sah's Greater Detroit Chapter,

The Michigan Professional
Woman's Network will host
Dr. Anne H. Spencer, hyp-
notherapist and- educator, at
its monthly dinner meeting,
5:30 p.m. March 9, at the Troy
Hilton.
