Hebrew Free Loan
Shabbat Next Week

The fifth annual bi-national
observance of Hebrew Free
Loan Sabbath will take place
on Shabbat Mishpatim, Feb.
27-28.
Synagogues and temples
throughout the U.S. and
Canada will mark the occa-
sion, officially established in
1982 by the Association of He-
brew Free Loans (AHFL),
whose co-president, Henry
Leopold, is past president of
Detroit's Hebrew Free Loan
Association.
The Torah portion will in-
struct Jews "not to exact inter-
est from the needy." It is this
biblical injunction which
serves as the cornerstone for
today's free loan agencies
whose purpose is to provide
interest-free loans to persons
in need.
