Titled "Syria: The Politics of Terror. 1982-1986," the report provides details of the massive Soviet arms buildup in Syria since 1973; Syria's widespread political repres- sion and denial of human rights; the systematic per- secution of Syria's Jewish minority and the nation's anti-Israel operations. The report was made public by Abraham Foxman, ADL's associate national director and head of its International Affairs Division. With the "guidance and support" of Syrian President Hafez Assad, the ADL said, Syria has used terrorism as an instrument of foreign policy, most notably the ouster of the American and Western presence from Lebanon. Polish-Jewish Dialogue Urged Chicago — Hoping to for- estall tensions between groups, a coalition of Polish American and Jewish Ameri- can leaders is urging Polish and Jewish organizations nationwide to hold dialogues with each other in connection with the Holocaust film Shoah which is expected to air on PBS channels this spring. The film caused considerable discomfort in both the Polish and the Jewish communities when it was first shown. Many Polish Americans felt that Shoah painted a one- dimensional picture of Poles as anti-Semites during the Holocaust. Their criticism of this por- trait as superficial led many Jews to feel that Polish Ameri- cans were denying both the unique nature of Jewish suffer- ing during the Holocaust and the existence of anti-Semitism in Poland.
