Whatever its origins, the modern-day honeymoon offers a vast array of destinations for newlyweds. According to Emily Post's Complete Book of Wedding Etiquette, during your engagement period, you and your fiance will enjoy making your honeymoon plans. Ideally, you will both want the same type of honeymoon, but if one of you wants to go camping and the other prefers life in a resort hotel, you must choose a spot in a resort area that combines both. Whatever you do, compromise. Feel free to consult your parents and friends and especially other newlyweds. Also, talk to a travel agency. The Jewish News asked several local travel agencies about favorite honeymoon destinations. Ann Sak, manager of Leisure Travel at Travel Unlimited Inc. "Las Brisas in Acapulco is lovely. It's quiet with beautiful weather, your own separate casitas, private pool, and your own pink and white jeep to see the entire island. It's very romantic, and not hard to get to. Hawaii-Kauai is also very, very beautiful. The Kauai Hilton is very nice." Terry Rotenberg, owner of Gemini Travel. "It depends on what time of year people are traveling. In the summertime I would say Bermuda is a glorious place for a honeymoon. In the wintertime I'd say Acapulco — where you know the weather could be marvelous and wonderful. In between time I think cruises are fantastic. Hawaii is also marvelous any time of the year." Rochelle Lieberman, owner of Gateway Travel Service, Inc. "They have a wonderful honeymoon package at Caneel Bay in St. John (Virgin Islands). The setting is beautiful and remote. There are private villas on the beach. Hawaii is the big place. There are so many ranges — tourist type places or small hotels. Mexico is really a hot seller because the dollar is strong there. Or if the couple is adventuresome and like sightseeing, they may like London." Janet Randolph, owner of Book Couzens Travel Service. "Hawaii, Bermuda, and the Caribbean. Hawaii and Bermuda are very romantic and are favorites for honeymooners. You can go to Bermuda from April through November. Hawaii is great all the time. The Caribbean is less expensive and popular too. There are a lot of destinations in the Caribbean that don't cost as much as other places. A couple can choose the resorts, the beach, or just do what they want at their own pace. The leisureliness is what's good." Al Gordon, owner of Gordon Travel. "The first one, of course, would be Bermuda — unfortunately it's not terribly inexpensive. It (Bermuda) seems to specialize in honeymoons. Jamaica — there is a place called The Shaw Park where they can actually arrange a wedding right there in a little garden in the mountains. The Pokonos in Pennsylvania for people who want to drive, and there are heart shaped bathtubs. Acapulco is always a popular spot — Las Brisas in the mountains is very popular. The Hawaiian Islands for those who want to go far away. Of course, there's always Paris, France. Any two people who are not sure they're in love with each other, -I send them on a cruise down the Seine and they'll be madly in love when it's over." Harold Kalt, owner of Bee Kalt Travel Service. "Hawaii, of course, is extremely popular. Hawaii is just very enchanting. People have a desire to go someplace tropical and the fact that it's America makes it more desirable.
