such a popular IRA invest-
ment? A mutual fund is a com-
pany tht pools money and
makes investments on behalf
of investors who share common
financial goals. Mutual fund
investors can typically access a
broader selection of securities
more economically than they
could by investing on their
own. In addition, mutul funds

changeability, visibility and

is the cornerstone of any suc-
cessful retirement plan, work
with your financial advisor to

It's important to note that
upon withdrawal from the IRA
at retirement, taxes would still
have to be paid on the earn-
ings; as well as on deductible

you will probably be in a lower
tax bracket when you retire
and so be liable for less tax on
your distribution.
You can establish an IRA
with a qualified financial in-
stitution, such as a brokerage
firm, bank, insurance company
or mutual fund.
To determine what kind of
investment is best for an IRA,
ask yourself how much you
want your money to grow and
how much risk you are Willing
to take to achieve this growth.
For instance, if you want capi-
tal growth and are willing to
take the risk that goes with it,
you should consider such in-
vestments as individual stocks
or limited partnerships. If on
the other hand, you would pre-
fer a fixed rate or return with
lower risk, it would be more
appropriate to invest your IRA
money in certificates of deposit
or in a government securities
fund or unit trust which con-
sists of obligations issued or
guaranteed by the U.S. gov-
ernment or its agencies or in-
strumentalities. If you want to
participate in the market with
professional management and
minimize your risk, then a
mutual fund might provide an
ideal middle ground.
