Tractate Study Marked
At Council `Siyum'

The Council of Rabbis of
Metropolitan Detroit (Vaad
HaRabbanim) announces a
community-wide celebration
marking the completion
("siyum") of a cycle of daily
Maimonides study to take
place Sunday, at 6 p.m. at Cong
Dovid Ben Nuchim, 14800 Lin-
coln, Oak Park.
• Three years ago, the
Lubavitcher Rebbe (sh'lita,
Rabbi Menachem M. Schneer-
son of Brooklyn., NY) launched
a global campaign for daily
study of Maimonides' Mishneh
Torah, either three chapters
daily, concluding the entire 14
volumes in one year, or one
chapter a day, concluding in
three years. On the Hebrew
date of Shevat 10 this year (the
night of the celebration), both
cycles simutaneously reach
their conclusion for a number
of area scholars and rabbis
(who daily learn three chapters
of Rambam) the evening will
mark the conclusion of their
third study-cycle of the entire
Maimonidean Code. For
others, committed to one-
chapter-a-day, the celebration
will be their first "siyum" of
the Code.
Greetings will be brought by

Rabbi Leizer Lavin and Rabbi
Chaskel Grubner, president
and director of the Council of
Rabbis, respectively. Others
scheduled to address the event
include: Rabbis Chaim M.
Bergstein, Elimelech
Goldberg, Shmuel Irons,
Yitschak M. Kagan, Elimelech
Silberberg and Shaiall
Zachariash. -

Highlight of the musical
program will be the singer, Av-
raham Fried of New York, who
has just returned from a sell-
out tour of Europe and Israel, K
and recently released his fifth
album, Good-Bye Golus.
For information, call
Lubavitch, 737-4271.

Temple To Host
Rabbinical Student

Angela Grayboys, a rabbini-
cal student at Hebrew Union
College, will be the guest at
Temple Beth Jacob Shabbat
service, 8 p.m. today. Follow-
ing the service she will discuss
her involvement with Social
Action in Africa and AIDS vic-
tims.
