THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

SO MANY PEOPLE IN-
TERESTED in fads these
days . . . danged shame that a
fad show came and went with-
out too much media notice .. .
It was at Cobo Hall for just one
day, Jan. 17, with new prod-
ticts, ideas and potential fads.
About 50 fad folks exhibited
in what many hope next year
will be a longer period.
Sheila Cohen Kalisher,
Mumford High grad, class of
'62, puts out little "I Love You"
cards for use at social functions
. . . Now living in Livingston,
N.J. with ex-localite hubby Dr.
Lester Kalisher and their two
children, Aaron and Lisa, she
was one of the exhibitors .. .
Sheila founded and is
president of her own firm,
A.L.L.'s Well Co.. . . where she
also has other items . . . At the
fair, Sheila presented some of
her original ideas, too.
Her mother, Bea Cohen and
brother, Stuart Cohen, live in
Southfield . . . Sister Judy
Cohen Harwood is in Cam-
bridge, Mass.
Hula hoop and frisbee mar-
keteer Richard Knerr was here
. . . plus Ken "Dr. Fad"
Hakuta, who had those little
rubber octypus wallwakers,
and Betty James, mother of the
"Slinky."
Sure must have been a lot of
fun!
Sheila and Dr. Lester
Kalisher have been married 20
years.
IT'S FINALLY GOING TO
HAPPEN . . . a reunion of
1968 class from Oak Park High
School . . . Meeting for number
20 is set to take place Monday
. . . For more info, call Nancy
(Levine) Leifer, 661-5028, or
Sherilyn (Katzman) Lisagor,
626-7929.
MICHIGAN CLUB OF De-
lray Beach, Fla., celebrated its
fifth anniversary at recent
dinner-dance.
Officers for 1987 are .. .
Faye B. Weiner, president;
Bud Oatley, first vice
president; Marie Oatley, sec-
ond vice president; Evelyn
Diamond, treasurer; Reva
Jacobs, corresponding secre-
tary; and Fay Weiner, record-
ing secretary.
"Snowbirds" from Michigan
while in the Delray Beach,
Boca Raton and Boynton
Beach areas are invited to join
the Michigan Club's many so-
cial activities while Florida
away-from-it-alling.
(Reva lives at 472 Piedmont
J., Delray Beach, Fla. 33445)
IT'S NOT THERE ANY-
MORE . . . hasn't been for
quite a while . . . but the
memories are not forgotten .. .
And so the former r.rads of old
Alger Elementary School,
Kenilworth and Brush, that
sent many community-ites on
to intermediate or middle
schools . . . want a reunion for
all the years . . . If you ever
attended Alger contact Lou
Linda at 737-2426.
CLEVER MAGNIFYING
GLASS with pen at other side
accompanies release about

Novi Hilton having a weekend
of mystery and intrigue . . . it's
the Murder Mystery package
set for Friday the 13th of
March through March 15.
This year, the weekend cen-
ters around a modeling agency
contest . . . Five young couples
are involved in the "Detroit-
Hosted Contest" . . . with win-
ners selected for an interna-
tional advertising campaign.
LOOKING BACK on col-
umns of yesteryears .. .
June 30, 1972 . . . "Listened
to . . . at Knob In The Woods
pool . . . by Dave Winston .. .
two women talking . . . "Is that
all there is to the story?' . . . 'I
guess so. I've already told you
more than I heard.' . . . At
Town and Country Club, by
Sam Haskins . . . wife to hus-
band on their 25th wedding
anniversary . . . 'This year lets
give each other sensible gifts
— like neckties and sable
coats.' "
July 14, 1972 . . . "The worst
cruelty in this world, says in-
surance man Ben Roggin, is
indifference . . . When the girl
asked her boyfriend 'Would
you like to see where I was op-
erated on for my appendix?'
this heartless golf shook his
head ... 'No, I hate hospi-
tals.' "
July 21, 1972 . . . "Renam-
ing will take place of Robbins
Building ,,n Evergreen in
Southfiek. . . It'll be called
Traveler's Tc wer . . . for main
tenant, Traveler's Insurance,
who'll occupy three floors.
July 21, 1972 . . . A Bir-
mingham storekeeper, sun-
ning himself in the doorway of
his shop, watched a policeman
checking meters stop at one car
not too close to the curb, pull a
coin out of his pocket and care-
fully deposit it in the meter .. .
The storekeeper remarked
that it was a mighty consider-
ate gesture . . . and the cop
grumbled, 'Considerate, my
eye. This is my wife's car.' "
July 28, 1972 . . . "Local
rabbi, a golfer of sorts, was 160
yards from the green at
Shenandoah recently, and ad-
vised by his caddy to use a
number three iron . . . 'I believe
I can make 't with a four,' said
the rabbi . . . but his ball
landed woefully short in a deep
sand pit . . . 'Confound it,'
grumbled the rabbi, 'I guess
the good Lord didn't hear me'
. . . 'He probably heard you al-
right,' said the caddy, 'but in
my church when we pray we
keep our heads down.' "
August 4, 1972 . . . "Paul
Berry, president of B'nai B'rith
Metropolitan Council, tells of
the young rabbi who finally
summoned courage to tell the
richest member of his congre-
gation . . . 'I hesitate to bring
this up, but do you always fall
asleep when I'm preaching?'
. . . 'Look', was the consoling
reply, 'Would I sleep if I didn't
trust you?' "
CONGRATS . . . to Betty
and Nate Barnett, wintering in
Florida . . . on their 45th an-
niversary.
