From David Ben-Gurion down the line, he was intimate and la- bored with the presidents and prime ministers of Israel. He was, therefore, their move- ment's semi-official represen- tative, not only in this area but as one of the spokesmen for Labor Zionism in this country. Mr. Lieberman, who died Jan. 26 at age 79, was a symbol of all that was related to the movement he represented. Thereby, he also assumed a major position in the com- munal life of Greater Detroit Jewry, and was constantly enlisted to aid in many local movements. His identification with the major causes here also resulted in his being counted for coop- eration in civic movements and was called upon for assistance by government, state and city officials. A native Detroiter, Mr. Lieberman was a practicing at- torney. In the Jewish sphere, he also counted among his ac- tivities Histadrut of Detroit, of which he was the current chairman; the board of the Labor Zionist Institute; Am- pal, of which he was a board member and co-founder; the Jacob Wapner, retired owner and operator of Grand Packing Co. and Owosso Livestock Co. in Owosso, died Jan. 23 at age 68.
