Currently, there are pro- grams leading to Bachelor of Hebrew Literature and Mas- ters of Hebrew Literature de- grees, teacher certification as well as life-long learning cer- tificates. Several classes geared to teachers are being offered. Philosophy of Education will explore basic philosophies of education as related to current educational problems, with Dr. Gerald A. Jewish Children, Jewish Schools Dr. Avi Aharoni, United Hebrew High School principal, will delve into child development and behavior management strategies for the classroom from March 2 to May 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 12. Teaching the Holocaust - The New Curriculum with Dr. Sidney Bolkosky and Betty Elias, co-authors of "The New Holocaust Curriculum," will provide pedagogic approaches to teaching the Holocaust, and will meet March 5 to 26 at 1:30 p.m. in the Friedman Confer- ence Room. In Curriculum - Theory and Practicum, Mrs. Bea Kriechman will provide theories and models for study with the end result of produc- ing individual curriculum materials. The Bible in its cultural con- text will be explored by Dr. Tikvah Frimer-Kensky in Bi- blical Culture and Thought from March 5 to May 14 at 7 p.m. in Room 7. Hebrew Lecture At Midrasha Pinchas Kahana will speak in Hebrew on "Making the Desert Bloom" at 3 p.m. Sun- day in the Moshe and Sarah Friedman Conference Room at the main United Hebrew Schools building. Kahana's lecture is part of the Hebrew language lecture series, "Ivrit B'Tzavta" co- sponsored by the Jewish Com- munity Center and Midrasha College of Jewish Studies. Kahana is currently in- volved in a Ph.D. program in urban technical ad environmental planning at the University of Michigan. He completed his undergraduate degrees at Tel Aviv University and the Technion. He has been director of planning in the Negev Region. His tasks in- cluded planning and develop- ing rural settlements with a team of experts. The lecture is intended for students fluent in Hebrew and Israelis. K KOSHER 74 Friday, January 23, 1987 THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS The Holocaust Memorial Center will present a lecture by Dr. Laurence Rudner, pro- fessor of English at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, at 7:30 p.m. Wednes- day in the Studio Theatre of the Main Jewish Community Center. The presentation is entitled "Literature of the Holocaust." There is no charge. Dr. Rudner has just returned from Poland where he served as a Fulbright scholar. Much of his time has been devoted to exploring what has happened to the once largest Jewish community in the world under Communist rule. Rudner will return to Poland this spring to continue his work there.
