ENTERTAINMENT < Can We Talk? Continued from Page 58 culturally, as well as reli- giously. I'm always aware of it and always proud of it." Currently, Rivers is work- ing with NatPAC, an Israeli issues-oriented political ac- tion committee, to combat anti-Semitism in this coun- try. "I'm Jewish, and I resent anti-Semitism," she said. "And if I can do something about it as a public figure, then I'm going to do it. Anti- semtism is a fact of life, and I think we should try to com- bat it by being a little bright- er, a little sharper than the next guy." Considering herself a writer first and then a performer, Rivers has dabbled in other spheres of art, such as drama, records, and film. Rabbit Test, a film starring Billy Crystal that Rivers .wrote and directed eight years ago, was not a big favorite among the critics. However, Rivers said making it was a great experience. "We planned it ourselves," she said proudly. "We wrote it ourselves. We did it with our own money. It was very, very successful, especially with the college kids. It was great fun." Rivers hopes to direct and write more films, as well as work on a Broadway play and author more books. Recently, she and her daughter, Melissa, 18, who is a com- munications major at the University of Pennsylvania, were commissioned by Dela- courte Press to write a book together on a topic which Rivers preferred not to reveal. With her new talk show, a bestselling book that is firmly entrenched at the top of the charts, and her popularity never stronger, it would seem that Joan Rivers has the world just where she wants it, blemishes and all. Does she have any complaints? Two, she said. "My thighs. They've always been my biggest problems." Joan Rivers will be in De- troit at 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 6 and 9 p.m. Sunday at the Premier Center, 33970 Van Dyke, Sterling Heights. For tickets, call the Premier Center, 264-1111. ❑ - 8 GOING PLACES Continued from Page 57 For Your Added Pleasure • Complete banquet facilities, heated indoor pool, excellent shopping nearby, sauna, exercise room and much more. • THE QUEST NIGHTCLUB Live entertainment nightly. • CACHE RESTAURANT Casual dining with a flair. - - RAMADA HOTEL 28225 Telegraph Rd.
