Due diligence, for one's own
or others' interest, is called for
in any venture or either life or
capital investment. A careful
review of your own financial
objectives and the economic
review of the actual invest-
ment can lead to a highly per-
sonalized, and potentially re-
warding, investment program.

Center, Synagogue Give
Boost to Jewish Scouting
Staff Report
A renewed interest in scout-
ing on the national level as
well as in the local Jewish
community has resulted in the
formation of two Tiger Cub
dens and two Cub Scout dens.
According to Robert Rosen-
feld, a member of the National
Jewish Relationships Commit-
tee of the Boy Scputs of
America and a member of the
executive committee of the De-
troit Area Council of the Boy
Scouts, there was interest at
the national Boy Scouts office
"to increase Jewish commu-
nity involvement."
Rosenfeld, along with Rabbi
David Nelson at Cong. Beth
Shalom, are spearheading a
move at the synagogue to
create a Tiger Cub den there
for children age 7 and 8. Rabbi
Nelson is on the Rabbinical
Task Force of the Boy Scouts of
America.
Beth Shalom will have an
organizing meeting to kick off
its Tiger Cub den at 7 p.m.
Monday in the synagogue.
Parents who are interested in
involving their children are
invited. Synagogue member-
ship is not required.
According to Rosenfeld, the
activities of the den will be
coordinated by the parents and
children. The group will have a
monthly activity comprised of
"what parents and the kids
want to do together in a Jewish
context." They will meet in
private homes, but it will be up
to the parents how often, he
said.
"The Jewish community has
let scouting slip from its
grasp," Rabbi Nelson said.
"The Jewish community has a
tendency to be overprogram-
med.
"It was only a matter of time
that scouting would be re-
discovered (in the Jewish
community). It's quality time
with your kids. It teaches val-
ues, responsibility, all the con-
cepts we want our kids to
have."
Beth Shalom Men's Club
members helping to organize
the synagogue's group are
Leonard Mason, Cary Adel-
man, Fred Goldenberg, Terry
Brown and Cantor Samuel
Greenbaum.
Meanwhile, the Jewish
Community Center, and Hillel
Day School have joined forces
to start a Tiger Cub den for
first graders and two Cub
Scout dens for boys in grades
two-five. There are eight boys
in the Tiger Cub den and eight
boys in each of the two Cub
Scout dens.
The Center, which for many
years has held a charter for a
Cub Scout pack, never began a
group because there was insuf-
ficient interest.
However, according to Jef-
frey Fishman, Hillel scout
committee chairman, many
parents were interested in
starting a scout group.
"We had many parents look-
ing for extra-curricular activi-
ties for their boys. These boys
are very active. They partici-
pate in most sports and ex-
pressed an interest in scouting.
As a result, their parents, who
are busy people in their own
right — we have doctors,
lawyers, business executives
— are giving their free time to
the kids."
The Center/Hillel group was
established with the assistance
of Jo Greene, coordinator of
family programming at the
Jewish Center, in conjunction
with the Clinton Valley Coun-
cil of the Boy Scouts. The Beth
Shalom group is being coordi-
nated with the Detroit Area
Boy Scout Council.
Fishman said that Pack 14
was organized with the inten-
tion that it would have a
Jewish flavor. The Center has
provided the pack with an Is-
raeli flag and the Jewish War
Veterans will present the pack
with an American flag at Sun-
day's meeting and induction at
10 a.m. at Hillel Day School.
"In order to earn their badges
they need to learn about their
heritage both as Jews and
Americans," Fishman said.
Adat Shalom Synagogue has a
working arrangement with
Pack 14 to help the scouts earn
Aleph badges.
