Judging for the children's
poster contest, "We AreOne .. .
Partners for Life: What Our
Jewish Community Means to
Me," sponsored by the Jewish
Welfare Federation and The
Jewish News, is underway.
Contest chairmen Michael
Feldman, Marjorie Krasnick
and Rob Orley have selected a
committee of local community
leaders to help review the more
than 200 posters received from
youngsters aged 5 to 18.
According to Feldman, stu-
dents from nearly 20 area day
and religious schools partici-
pated in the event, as well as
young Detroiters not currently
enrolled in religious school.
Orley said that several
teachers made the contest a
class project because the theme

enabled participants to become
more aware of the work of the
Jewish Welfare Federation
and the role it plays in
strengthening the local com-
munity.
When judging of the posters
is completed, one grand prize
winner will be selected and
presented with $250 cash, and
four first place winners, one in
each age category, will receive
$50 U.S. savings bonds. In
addition, prizes will be
awarded for honorable men-
tion.
Mrs. Krasnick noted that
winners will be notified by
mail and prizes will be pre-
sented during Federation's
annual Super Sunday telethon
on Feb. 1 at the United Hebrew
Schools in Southfield.

novative projects by the Max
M. Fisher Jewish Community

Elected along with Handle-
man were Samuel Frankel,
Graham Orley and Carolyn
Greenberg, vice presidents; D.
Larry Sherman, treasurer; and
Martin S. Kraar, secretary.
Re-elected to the board of di-
rectors were Alfred L. Deutsch,
James Wineman, Joseph H.
Jackier and Milton J. Miller.
Others elected to the board
were Warren J. Coville, Beth
Lowenstein and Dulcie Rosen-
feld.
The board also approved
honorary life memberships for
Max M. Fisher and Frieda
Stollman.
This year, UJC's Max M.
Fisher Jewish Community
Foundation, chaired by Stan-

David Handleman

ley J. Winkelman, distributed
$200,000 toward Jewish edu-
cation, health and welfare,
community relations and out-
reach to the unaffiliated.
Reflecting the community's
concern for Jewish education, a
program that will link parents
