Rachmiel Wirnick rendered
many services as a gatherer of
news from many lands for
Jewish readers as editor of the
Zionist Information News
Service. He compiled weekly,
from sources that were seldom
available elsewhere about
Jewish happenings in scores of
communities in many lands.
He was able to accomplish
his purpose as a linguist, his
sources coming from the He-
brew, Yiddish, Spanish,
French, Russian, Polish and
Italian.
While his by-lines were usu-
ally in Hebrew and Yiddish,
frequently in English, his
sense of news value was un-
paralleled.
His death last week removes
a very able archivist from the
Jewish journalistic field. The
services he rendered as ZINS
editor elevated his activities to
the highest ranks of prod-
uctivity as a staff member of
the Zionist Organization of
America and in Zionist ranks
worldwide. Readers of his col-
umns in this newspaper during
the past quarter-century will
surely endorse this tribute.

David A. Zack inscribed his
name notably in this commu-
nity's records.
He had a number of roles in
major movements, especially
the Jewish National Fund of
Detroit, of which he was
president, Zionist obligations
to which he was dedicated, and
Cong. Shaarey Zedek.
It was the public service re-
cord of David Zack as much as
his perpetuation of family,
spiritual and communal
legacies that elevated him to
highest ranks of citizenship.
As an appointee of Michigan
governors and Detroit mayors,
he made definite contributions
to public agencies and profes-
sional obligations.
He treated with dignity his

the Unpublished Letters Be-
tween Beer-Hofmann and
Theodor Herzl).
Adding to the variety of
topics in this festshrift is the
most important commentary,
"Israel Salanter and the Musar
Movement" by Levi Sahlit.
The bibliography of the vol-
uminous works of Prof. Sol
Liptzin and the brief biog-
raphical item about the man
honored provide the accum-
mulating reasons for this hon-
oring of a very distinguished
scholar. Thus the contribu-
tions made to the distin-
guished academician attest to
the deserving tributes. They
add' to the already widely
acclaimed stature of a very
eminent personality on his
85th birthday.
