Youth Awards
Program Nears
Dorothy Cohen, president of
the League of Jewish Women's
Organizations, announces that
the 42nd annual youth awards
program will be held on March
22 at Temple Kol Ami. The
guest speaker will be Rabbi
Norman Roman, rabbi of Tern-
ple Kol Ami. A reception will
follow the presentations of the
awards.
The youth awards program
honors Jewish students in the
Detroit metropolitan area who
have attained a high scholastic
average, who have demon-
strated strong commitment to
service in the community, who
have submitted letters of
recommendation from organ-
izations sponsoring their
entries.
In addition, each applicant
must write an essay on the
topic, "My Brother's/Sister's
Keeper: What Are My Moral
and Ethical Responsibilities?"
Each eligible applicant will be
interviewed by a panel of
judges which includes Marjorie
Saulson, immediate past
president of the league; Dr. --
Gayle Beck, Barbara Kab-
canell, Dr. Gerald Kirzner and
Dr. Phoebe Mainster.
The interviews will take
place during January. Dead-
line for submission of all re-
quired materials is Monday.
Charlotte K. Nussbaum is
chairman of the youth awards.
Other members of the commit-
tee include: Betty Silverfarb,
Dorothy Cole, Marilyn
Schakne. Pearl August is ad-
viser.
Intermarriage
Workshop Topic
Kim Haveraneck, a
psychotherapist at Woodcreek

for workshops on intermar-
riage at 7:30 p.m. February 5,
12 and 19 at the main Jewish
Community Center.

Funds Sought
New York — As 1986 draws
to a close, UJA/Federation
Campaigns throughout the
country are in the midst of
year-end cash collection efforts
to secure payments on pledges
that support vital social wel-
fare programs for Jews in need
worldwide. The 1986 UJA goal
for overseas needs is $400 mil-
lion.
