view of Cooley Lake and spe-
cializes in fresh seafood dishes
including scampi, Cape scal-
lops and lobster tail.
"Virgil Ciungan's family has
been operating Ciungan's sea-
food house for nearly 50 years.
The dining room shows signs of
age but we've never been dis-
appointed in the food. You can
select your own live lobster, up
to three pounds, from the lobs-
>, ter tank and it's succulent. The
special is French fried shrimp.
Clam chowder, salad and
pr—ato are included and the
price is right.
"Diamond Jim Brady's in
3000 Town Center can't hold a
candle to the restaurant of the
same name in Detroit. The
salad in both places are called
Lillian Russell but there's a
difference. And even the ham-
burgers in the Southfield res-
taurant don't measure up.
"Since more and more diners
are shunning red meat, restau-
rants serving fresh fish and
seafood seem to be gaining in
popularity. Diet conscious
patrons are seeking dining
spots where they can get a good
piece of fish and they can tell
the difference between fresh
> and frozen. For the price con-
. scious, lobster and king crab
legs may be out of their league.
We've been to seafood places
where the waiter or waitress
has advised us not to order crab
legs because the portions are
skimpy and overpriced.
"Speaking of waitpersons,
we sometimes wonder if it's
more annoying to be served by
those who are overzealous and
ask you 50 times during the
\ meal if everything is satisfac-
tory or the ones who get lost
between the appetizer and
cocktails and the entree.
Somehow, they come to life
when it's time to pay the bill
and you're still waiting for the
second cup of coffee.
"We've encountered wait-
resses who continually chirp,
`How are you guys doing?' They
seem to be haunting you, hop-
ing you'll hurry up and leave so
the next party can be seated.
That's as bad as the busboy
who grabs your plate when
you're halfway through your
dinner. It's enough to make
you wish you had eaten at
home where you could at least
relax."
