> Court Renders
No Verdict In
Nakash Case

Jerusalem (JTA) — The
Supreme Court adjourned its
hearing in the case of William
Nakash last week without
rendering a decision on
whether or not he should be
extradited to France for the
crime of murder. The five-
member panel of justices,
headed by Court President
Meir Shamgar, will reconvene
but no date was announced.
Nakash will remain in cus-
tody pending a decision. The
hearing is on an appeal by the
Civil Rights Movement
(CRM) and a group of Hebrew
University law professors
> against Justice Minister
Avraham Sharir's rejection of
the extradition request.
Nakash was sentenced in
absentia by a French court to
life • imprisonment for the
1984 murder of an Algerian
> Arab, Abdelali Hakkar, in
Besancon, a provincial city
southeast of Paris. His fight
against extradition is sup-
ported by Orthodox Jews and
rightwing nationalist ele-
ments here who say the kill-
ing was an act of self-defense
against an Arab terrorist.
Sharir's decision not to ex-
tradite was based on Nakash's
claim that his life would be
endangered by Arab prison-
ers if he served his sentence
in France. Deputy State At-
torney Nilli Arad who ap-
peared before the Supreme on
behalf of the Justice Ministry
was pressed by Shamgar an
the other justices to explain
how Sharir reached that
conclusion.

lel Aviv (JTA) — An emer-
gency consignment of 10,000
units of flu vaccine arrived
here from The Netherlands
last week and was approved
by the Health Ministry. It is
being distributed to phar-
macies all over the country.
Israel is in the grip of an
Asian flu epidemic, a par-
ticularly virulent strain of
Taiwan and Singapore flu
which claimed 89 lives in the
last two weeks of November
and has put thousands on the
/—
sick list.
The local supply has run
out. The imported ampules
are expected to sell out in a
few hours. The Health Min-
istry wants to restrict them
to the high risk groups —
young children and elderly
persons suffering from
chronic ailments. The Dutch-
made vaccine sells for 21
Shekels (US $14) a dose, dou-
ble the cost of a Frenchmade
1 vaccine against the normal
strain of flu. New stocks of
the latter are due here soon.
