ernment of the United States
can strengthen its ties to the
State of Israel. It may come as a
shock to many Jews but there
are tens of millions of evangel-
ical Christians, quite a few of
which who are just as liberal as
Mr. Bienstock, unfortunately,
who will freely elect to support
Israel for some very good and
just reasons, none of which
threaten Jewish identity or
viability as a people or a reli-
gion.

Your article on "Kosher
Consistency" that appeared in
the Dec. 12 issue of The Jewish
News was well-written and in-
formative. As a matter of fact,
it was so informative as to
cause me to closely examine
ohe of your advertisements in
the same issue.
The advertisement spon-
sored by The Detroit Area
Kosher, Retail Meat Dealers
Association listed its seven
members including three who
are not under the supervision
of the Council of Orthodox
Rabbis. Yet that ad stated
"Our member markets use
only the finest of kosher meats
and poultry sanctioned by a
recognized Orthodox rabbini-
cal council ..."
I will concede that in the ab-
sence of regulatory guidelines,
and allowing for a broad in-
terpretation, the word
"kosher" is not the exclusive
province of the Council of Or-
thodox Rabbis. However, the
ad states that the meats and
poultry are sanctioned by a
recognized Orthodox rabbini-
cal council. The only one that
functions in this area and is
"recognized" is the Council of
Orthodox Rabbis.
How about requiring your
advertisers to adhere to truth
in advertising? If there is an-
other recognized Orthodox
rabbinical council it might

Inquiry Needed
In Bronson Case

Your taking regretful occa-
sion to equate the claimed mis-
deeds of millionare Ivan
Boesky, and of the eminent
jurist, now late and lamented,
S. Jerome Bronson (Editorial,
Nov. 28) is understandable. We
wish it were not so ...
We seem to be prone to ac-
cept the guilt of these two men
as reported in the media.
Should we accept this without
critical examination? Basi-
cally there are two types of
criminality known to law,
technically known as mallum
per se and mallum prohibita.
The first is something that is
bad by the common consensus
of mankind . . . The second does
not involve moral turpitude,
but is made illegal by legisla-
ture or other legal enactment

But law enforcement agen-
cies have added a third one,
that of entrapment to apparent
vulnerability, buttressed by
dangling before another per-
son equally as vulnerable as
the first the bait of immunity
from prosecution if he would
turn state's evidence ...
It is believed that a serious
error was committed in the
Bronson case, at lease an error
of procedure. There is in
Michigan a Judicial Tenure
Commission, of which, inci-
dentally, Rabbi Irwin Groner
is a member. It has jurisdiction
of all cases of complaints
against judges for misconduct,
real or fancied. If a crime has
been committed, the
would refer the matter to
proper authorities for appro-
priate action. I believe that an
inquiry into the Bronson case
is indicated, even to clear his
name posthumously.
