Announce Gifts
New York (JTA) Four
Jewish universities recently
announced receiving major
financial contributions.
Brandeis University has
embarked on a five-year $200
million national fund-raising
drive intended to strengthen
its financial base and prepare
for growth. Preliminary work
on the liberal arts and re-
search university's first
capital campaign has raised
$60 million.
The Albert Einstein Col-
lege of Medicine of Yeshiva
University, New York, began
its five-year $90 million fund-
raising drive on November 16
with $33 million already
raised.
The American Society for
'Ibc.hnion-IsTael Institute of
Technology (Haifa) was
pledged a record $21 million
in fiscal year 1985-86, $3
million more than the
previous year.
The J. Paul Getty Thist has
given $1 million to the
Hebrew Union College Cul-
ture Center for American
Jewish Life.

Lubavitch
Drive On
New York (JTA) — The
Lubavitch movement an-
nounced a major drive to estab-
lish hundreds of new Chabad-
Lubavitch houses all over the
world to serve Jewish reli-
gious, social and educational
needs. Plans are well advanced
for 120 new houses to.open in
the next few months, according
to an announcement at the
conclusion of the movement's
three-day conference at
Lubavitch world headquar-
ters.
Barbie Protest
New York (JTA) — About 50
people demonstrated Dec. 17
for more than an hour in front
of the French Consulate here,
protesting the constant delay
of the trial of war-time gestapo
chief Klaus Barbie. Barbie has
been in French custody since
1983.
It was announced in Paris
that the trial of Barbie might
begin next March. He will be
charged with "crimes against
humanity."
