The Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan hon- ored four Jewish communal leaders at their annual dinner last week. Abraham Ran of West Bloomfield was named "Buil- der of the Year 1986." Ran is a vice president and partner in Biltmore Properties Corp. of Troy. Mandell Berman of Franklin and Samuel Hechtman of West Bloomfield were named to the Michigan Housing Hall of Fame. Be- rman retired as president of Bert L. Smokler & Co. and Dreyfus Development Corp. in 1975. He continues to serve on the Dreyfus board. Hechtman has been president of Practical Home Builders, Inc. since it was organized in 1938. The Builders Association also honored its president, Fred E. Beginning his career as a part-time phar- macist at the chain's first store in Pontiac, Fox, 53, was named Perry's president in 1980. Fox's departure was de- scribed as "amiable" by Perry executives. Fox said he will pursue other interests. He is the associate chair- man of the Detroit .Friends of Bar-Ilan University and on the executive committees of the Jewish Community Cen- ter and United Hebrew Schools. In September, Fox was honored by Magen David Adorn. Mintz To Speak To Histadrut Israel Histadrut Campaign of Metropolitan Detroit, at its annual Chanukah brunch on Dec. 28 at 11 a.m., will pre- sent Dr. Sheldon Mintz as guest speaker.
