Call 354 6060 - Gail Gales advises Seymour Pritikin on a Hebrew assignment. . that "Today's average Jewish parent puts religious educa- tion very low on their list of priorities. If there is an in- convenience involved on their behalf, the child will not attend Sunday school. Those that do go are not always having the ideals learned at school reinforced at home." Clearly, American Jews must struggle on two fronts for the continuance of He-"' brew and Judaic studies. One struggle is against public school administrators' belief that there is a "lack of inter- est" in studying the Hebrew language. The other, perhaps more symptomatic, is Jewish apathy toward Hebrew and Jewish learning. ❑ Boesky Ends Ties With Jewish Causes New York (JTA) — Ivan Boesky, the financier fined $100 million by the Securities and Exchange Commission for insider trading of stocks, has removed himself and his funds from the Jewish corn- munity here, according to re- cent Jewish press reports. The day before announce- ment of the fine, the Jewish Theological Seminary of America received word from Boesky that he was resigning from the seminary board and as president of the seminary library corporation. He also withdrew his and his wife Seema's name from the library. Boesky reportedly had pledged $2 million for the library, completed in 1983. He also has resigned from the board of the UJA- Federation here, its council of overseers and campaign lead- ership. He twice chaired the UJA-Federation joint campaign. He also has resigned from the boards of Yeshiva Univer- sity, the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council, as a special adviser on Jewish af- fairs to the Republican Na- tional Committee and finance director of the National Jewish Coalition, a group supportive of the Republican Party. He withdrew his $750,000 pledge to the planned Center for Jewish Life at Princeton University. Both the university and local UJA-Federation officials say the loss of his pledges will not deter their fund-raising efforts. A UJA-Federation leader said he doubted the agency would have to return any contributions, since it's unclear what portion of the contribution, if any, was ob- tained by Boesky illegally. • • • hair reaction Gorgeous chains of gold.
