The Michigan BBYO
Regional Convention will be
held Sunday through Thurs-
day at the main Jewish
Community Center. About
500 delegates from chapters
throughout the metropolitan
Detroit area a well as from
Ann Arbor and Windsor, Ont.
will attend.
The slogan for this year's
convention is "Take a Walk
on the Wild Side," and dele-
gates and chapters will com-
pete in a variety of athletic
and creative endeavors. The
convention will feature a sock
hop and a dressy dance, a ta-
lent show, and a series of
selective workshops on the
theme "Adolescent Effects on
Society."
Some of the featured
speakers will be State Sen.
Jack Faxon on "Teens Have
Rights, Too"; State Rep.
Maxine Berman on "Youth
Involvement in Our Political
System"; Birmingham
Brother Rice Coach Al
Fracassa on "Sports and
Life"; and Reginald Lewis of
the Michigan Department of
Civil Rights on "Prejudging
Others; The Choice of Ignor-
ance."
Other featured speakers
are: Mark Brewer of the
ACLU on "Teens in the Work
Force"; Deanne Ginns-
Gruenberg of Community
Education for Teencare on
"Dating: Training to Be a
Caring Adult"; Cheri Amos-
Helmicki, student activities
coordinator of Berkley High
School, on "Youth and their
Schools"; Ilona Vinegar on
"Fashion, Fads, and Teens";
and Julie Pence of Common
Ground on "Teenage Preg-
nancy."

The Great Lakes BBG
Council will sponsor an
aerobics class on a weekly
basis beginning Jan. 18, and
continuing through March
22. The program will be
scheduled at 3:15 p.m. at the
main Jewish Community
Center. All registered mem-
bers of BBG are eligible to
participate. Registration for
the program will be handled
through chapter presidents.

BBYO announces the for-
mation of Raoul Wallenberg
BBYO in Ann Arbor. The
chapter is open to all Jewish
youth in Washtenaw County
in grades nine through 12.
The group meets regularly on
Sundays at 2 p.m. For infor-

BBYO is in the process of
developing one new AZA and
one new BBG chapter in the
Farmington Hills-West
Bloomfield area. The BBG
group will meet on Sunday
evenings and the AZA group

The Great Lakes AZA
Council will sponsor its an-
nual basketball league be-
ginning 9 a.m. Jan. 25, and
running weekly through
April 12. All games will be
played at Oakland Commu-
nity College, Orchard Ridge
campus. Applications will be
mailed individually to all
registered members of AZA.
Team deposits for the league
will be due at the regional
convention council meeting
on Wednesday.

Sharon Lubetsky
The board of directors of
Hillel Day School appointed
Sharon Lubetsky chairman of
the school's new parent re-
cruitment effort. Lubetsky is
a past editor of Hillel's
monthly newsletter, the Di-
vrei, and serves on the
alumni committee. She also
serves on the ritual commit-
tee and the new membership
committees of Adat Shalom
Synagogue. She is the mother
of two Hillel students.
Lubetsky will coordinate
Hillel's new parent recruit-
ment open house, to be held
7:30 p.m. Jan. 22, at the
school in Farmington Hills.

dergarten and first grade
