Temple Chanukah
Celebration Sunday
Temple Emanu-El Reli-
gious School will celebrate
Chanukah on Sunday with a
multi-media experience.
At 9 a.m., students in
grades kindergarten-seven
will enter the Jospey
Sanctuary where they will
participate in a brief
candlelighting service led by
Cantor Norman Rose. Rabbi
Lane Steinger will tell the
children the story of
Chanukah.
The children will leave the
sanctuary and go to the
school wing. Here they will
travel from station to station
for hands-on experiences with
crafts, songs, games, and
values-clarification, all deal-
ing with Chanukah. These
will be prepared by the
teachers of each grade level.
At 10:45, all will go to the
Katzman 'Social hall for a
traditional Chanukah seudah
(festival meal) of potato lat-
kas and jelly doughnuts pre-
pared by the P.T.O. Rabbi
Steinger will lead the chil-
dren in the HaMotzi (grace
before meals) and Cantor
Rose will lead the Birkat
HaMazon (thanks after me-
als).
As the children leaire they
will each receive dreidles,
Chanukah candles and choco-
late "gelt" (money). Director
of education is Dr. Margaret
S. Eichner.

Michigan Technological
University, at its 1986-1987
mid-year commencement,
conferred an honorary Doctor
of Engineering degree on
Julius J. Harwood.
A West Bloomfield resi-
dent, Harwood served as a
member of the board of con-
trol of Michigan Tech for ten
years. He chaired the board
in 1970, 1976 and 1985.
Harwood joined Ford Motor
Co. in 1960, after 20 years
with the federal government
in Washington, D.C. He re- 7 /
tired from Ford in 1983 as di-
rector of materials science in
the Ford Research Labora-
tory. He subsequently ac-
cepted a joint appointment as
