from 1940 to its liberation in
1945, and glass cases display
religious articles and other
relics from the camp. Three
displays deal with the "Final
Solution," Hitler's plan to rid
Europe of Jews.
While viewing the exhibi-
tion in New York, Nobel
Prize winner Elie Wiesel
noted that the Polish gov-
ernment made a special effort
to appropriately portray the
Nazi persecution of Jews dur-
ing the Holocaust.
Produced by the Interna-
tional Auschwitz Committee
in association with the Au-
schwitz State Museum, the
exhibition commemorates the
40th anniversary of the lib-
eration of the largest Nazi
death camp. The American
tour is sponsored by the
United Jewish Appeal, World
Jewish Congress and the
United Nations Center for
Human Rights.
In preparation for the De-
troit showing, Dr. Giles has
appointed Melba Winer and
Alex Ehrmann as chairmen.
Both are active with the
Holocaust Memorial Center.

An exhibition of documents
and artifacts from Auschwitz,
entitled "Auschwitz: A Crime
Against Mankind," will ap-
pear in Detroit May 17-29
under the joint sponsorship-of
the Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion, Holocaust Memorial
Center and the Jewish Com-
munity Council.
The exhibition, which will
take place at the Wayne
State University Community
Arts Gallery, is on a two-year
tour of major cities in the
United States, on loan from
the Auschwitz State Museum.
Many organizations — both
Jewish and non-Jewish —
will participate. According to
Dr. Conrad L. Giles,
president of Federation, every
effort will be made to attract
school, church and ethnic
groups to the exhibition.
Viewed by 75,000 people at
the United Nations last
winter, the exhibition con-
sists of concentration camp
items, artwork, personal be-
longings and 135 panels of
photographs and documents.
Some of the photos deal
