had been," he says. "But it
had better change!"
Simmons is not afraid of
pointing fingers. "We work
with and help AIDS people
and Ethiopian hunger vic-
tims. Now let's help the phys-
ically challenged, too. If
you're a Jew, you're raised to
be part of mankind and help
others."
Despite the admonitions,
despite what Simmons per-
ceives as a lack of real corn-
mitment and concern, he re-
mains optimistic. "If I wasn't
optimistic, then I wouldn't be
doing what I am. It's also im-
portant to be realistic,
though, and I'm trying to hit
people between the eyes."

Yoel Sharabi

Singer and musician Yoel
Sharabi will perform at Cong.
Beth Achim on Thursday at 8
p.m.
Sharabi began his musical
career performing for his fel-
low troops in the Central
Army Band in his native Is-
rael. Since then, he has
traveled extensively, getting
the attention of stage, screen,
and television audiences in
Israel, Europe, and the
United States.
Sharabi uses a wide variety
of instruments, including
tambour (an oriental drum)
while simultaneously playing
the melody on a chaliel (a re-
corder) or as he plays two re-
corders at once.
The concert is part of Cong.
Beth Achim's celebration of
its Chai (18th) anniversary.
Beth Achim was formed by
the merger of Congs. Beth
Aaron and Ahavas Achim.
The concert is open to the
community, free of charge.
