Melvin and Etta Mermell
Mermell
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin W.
Mermell (the former Etta
Laker) of Birmingham were
honored recently at Temple
Israel on the occasion of their
50th wedding anniversary.
They were married in
Windsor, Ont., Canada, on
Sept. 27, 1936.
Long-time active members
of Temple Israel, the Mer-
mells renewed ther marriage
vows on the bimah and re-
ceived a ketubah, which re-
united them in marriage on
this special anniversary, from
Rabbis M. Robert Syme,
50th
Harold Loss and Paul Yed-
wab and Cantor Harol Or-
bach. They also received an
album of Judaic art entitled,
Jewish Art and Civilization,
from the clergy.
Their
children
and
grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs.
Lance Mermell, Rachel and
Joshua of Lake Orion, and
Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Mer-
mell of New York and Israel,
honored them at a family
dinner at Kingsley Inn.
Grandson Matan Mermell,
who lives in Israel, sent spe-
cial greetings.
Concert Due For Seniors
The senior adult depart-
ment of the Jewish Commu-
nity Center will present the
Rose Morgan Chorale, featur-
ing Sylvia Halliburton, at 2
p.m. Sunday in Jaffe Hall of
the Jimmy Prentis Morris

pulmonary screening in the
assembly hall between 1 and
3 p.m. The culture club will
host its annual Chanukah
latke party at 12:30 p.m.
