year later Guberman was of-
fered a visa if he would col-
laborate with KGB agents by
"keeping an eye on emigrat-
ing Jews and denouncing and
preparing provocations
against Jewish activists."
Guberman refused and was
promptly arrested on false
charges of illegally puchasing
and selling icons. He had
been collecting such relics for
many years in a perfectly
legal manner.
Guberman was tried in
1980, convicted on evidence
supplied by two known
thieves and sentenced to five
years at hard labor. His sen-
tence was upheld on appeal.
He was released in May
1984. At this time, the family
continues to wait to emigrate
to Israel.
Mrs. Guberman has a sis-
ter living in Jerusalem. Seth
hopes to speak to his twin on
the telephone prior to the bar
mitzvah to tell this family of
the Jackier family's concerns
and work on their behalf.

Riots Continue
Over Murder
In Jerusalem

Jerusalem (JTA) — A new
upsurge of violence in the Old
City and in the West Bank
last weekend resulted in mass
arrests of Arab youths who
took to the streets to mark
the 39th anniversary of the
November 29, 1947 resolution
of the United Nations Gen-
eral Assembly to partition
Palestine into Jewish and
Arab states.
The unrest erupted as
passions continued to run
high over the fatal stabbing
of yeshiva student Eliahu
Amdi in the Old City on
November 15, which was
followed by nine days of at-
tacks on Arabs and their pro-
perty by local Jews infuriated
by the murder.
A group of Arab students
attempted to force their way
to the Temple Mount which
was cordoned off by police.
Arab shopkeepers were forced
to close their doors under
pressure from young Arab
militants. In the West Bank,
Arab youths hurled rocks at
Israeli vehicles and set up
road blocks.
