The success of the Capital
Funds Campaign at Hillel
Day School was announced
this week by Capital Funds
co-chairmen Sharon Hart and
Allan Nachman. The cam-
paign received a large boost
from a parlor meeting re-
cently held at the home of
Doreen and David Hermelin,
where $300,000 in pledges
were made. Since that eve-
ning, an additional $60,000
has been pledged.
Fundraising for the new
William, Ethan and Marla
Davidson Wing began nearly
four years ago and reached
the $1 million level this
summer. The new wing was
partially opened at the be-
ginning of this school year,
allowing students and faculty
to utilize three classrooms, a
science lecture room and lab-
oratory, a multipurpose room
and several conference rooms.
The remainder of the wing,
which includes eight addi-
tional classrooms, will be
open within a few weeks.

Soviet Jewry Report
For Allied Campaign
Members of the Allied
Jewish Campaign Metropoli-
tan Division will get a
firsthand report on the Soviet
Union from Dr. Gerald and
Judy Teller, Dec. 14 at the
Adolph Deutsch Administra-
tive Wing of United Hebrew
Schools.
The 10 a.m. breakfast
meeting will also hear a 1987
Metropolitan Division Cam-
paign update from division
vice chairman Morris
Rochlin.
Purim 1986 found the Tel-
lers in an apartment in the
Soviet Union helping Jewish
activists learn to teach He-
brew and Jewish history - a
crime other teachers were
being arrested for.
Their slide presentation re-
lates the Tellers' efforts and
the Jewish cultural renais-
sance taking place in Russia
today.
Dr. Teller is superinten-
dent of the United Hebrew
Schools and president of the
Midrasha, College of Jewish
Studies. His wife Judy is
assistant director of Jewish
student organizations at Oak-
land University.
