Her Bat Mitzvah
Leah Beth Markowitz,
daughter of Sarah and David
Markowitz, will celebrate her
bat mitzvah Saturday at the
Birmingham Temple. The
topic of her presentation will
be "The Life and Works of
Sholem Aleichem."
Leah will twin her bat
mitzvah with Yulya Gulgan
of Moscow, USSR, whose fam-
ily applied for an exit visa in
1979, but never received a
response from the govern-
ment.
Leah is a student at Bloom-
field Hills Middle School. She
is the granddaughter of Louis
and Bertha Kaminsky and
Isabel Markowitz.

Meals for Seniors."
Based on the New York
City Meals-on-Wheels pro-
gram, Home Meals for
Seniors will provide and de-
liver special holiday meals
and eventually weekend me-
als, closing the gap between
what the government does
and what many frail elderly
need to survive. This service
also helps to prevent early
institutionalization.
