Jewish Data In Texas

Dallas (JTA) — The Thxas
Jewish Historical Society
(TJHS) wants the Jewish con-

tributions to the state to be
more comprehensively includ-
ed in "The Handbook of
Thxas," an encyclopedia of the
state, according to The Texas
Jewish Post.
Handbook editor Dr. Ibm
Cutrer agrees, and has en-
dorsed the TJHS hiring of
two researchers/writers to
survey and identify topics for
possible inclusion in the up-
dated 1995 edition. Thou-

and citizens are involved in
the 10-year project to expand
the book to six volumes and
more than 25,000 entries.
The TJHS researchers are
writing a questionnaire to be
sent next month to Jewish
federations, congregations,
organizations, archives,
libraries, historical societies,
families, businesses and in-
dividuals to identify possible
handbook topics. Information
gleaned will be shared with
Cutrer and become part of the
TJHS archives at the Univer-
sity of Thxas, Austin.

Mr. and Mrs. William J. Poplack recently unveiled the
Poplack Gallery of Precolumbian Art at the Detroit Institute of
Arts. The gallery features the ancient arts of Peru, Central
America and Mexico created before the 16th Century Spanish
conquest.
