character in Brazil, has a key
role and young Jade Malle
makes her debut as the 12-
year-old Samantha, who is
the center of the tragic hap-
penings.
The Wannsee Conference
deals with the events of Jan.
20, 1942, at the Berlin sub-
urb of Wannsee, in which the
fate of European Jewry was
decided by the Nazi hierarchy
over dinner and cocktails.
Producer Manfred
Korytowski is a German-born
Jew who went with his fam-
ily to Brazil when he was a
child. In 1953, he immigrated
to Israel, where he spent two
years in the army. He
learned of the conference
when studying the files of the
Eichmann trial.
He made his precise ac-
counts of the happenings by
staging The Wannsee Con-
ference" with 16 German-
speaking actors, the number
of those who attended the in-
timate gathering under the
leadership of Reinhold Heyd-
rich, head of the German Se-
curity Police.

The picture has been con-
structed with the Aristotelian
principle of complete unity of
time and locale. The confer-
ence lasted 85 minutes, so
does the film. Moveover, the
stage is the room used for the
conference.

Amy Irving, who most re-
cently completed the fairy
tale Rumpelstiltskin for
Golan-Globus in Israel, is
now set to portray the title
role in Anastasia: The Story
of Anna Anderson, Telecom's
four-hour miniseries for NBC.
Irving replaces Nastassja
Kinski, who withdrew for
personal reasons. Ingrid
Bergman portrayed the part
in the theatrical version some
years ago under the direction
of Anatole Litvak.
Irving, who is married to
producer-director Steven
Spielberg, joins veteran ac-
tors Rex Harrison, who will
portray Grand Duke Cyril
Romanov; Olivia d'Havilland
as Dowager Empress; Omar
Sharif as Emperor Nicholas;
and Claire Bloom as
Alexandra.
