Dr. Philip Mason

The Jewish Historical
Society, in an effort to
encourage the Jewish com-
munity to save its records for
future historians, is present-
ing Dr. Philip P. Mason, his-
torian and director of the
Reuther Archives at Wayne
State University, who will
speak on "Preserving Our
Past for Tomorrow's Genera-
tions" and conduct a tour of
the Reuther Archives 10 a.m.
Nov. 23.
With the cooperation of the
Jewish Welfare Federation
and the Jewish Community
Council, representatives from
all the agencies of Federa-
tion, every local Jewish group
and outstate communities are
being encouraged to attend.
The Jewish Historical
Society expects the meeting
to be a stimulus for collecting
and organizing local Jewish
archives. Dr. Mason will give
practical suggestions. Dr.
Mason in 1985 received th
Distinguished Faculty
Award. He is the author of
Directory of Jewish Archival
Institutions, commissioned by
the National Foundation for
Jewish Culture.
The Reuther Library is lo-
cated on Cass Avenue at
Kirby. Free parking will be
provided at the Detroit His-
torical Museum lot on Kirby
between Cass and Woodward.
Evelyn Noveck is president
of the Jewish Historical
Society and Judy Cantor is
chairman of this seminar.
