1986, Bookbinder has served
in a number of key govern-
ment and public-interest
positions. During the years
Bookbinder served as Wash-
ington representative of AJC,
he was responsible for liaison
between the AJCommittee,
and the White House, the
Congress, federal agencies
and other national non-
government agencies.
As special representative of
the AJC, Bookbinder serves
as a general advisor and
spokesman for the AJCom-
mittee. He participates in
meetings and conferences
throughout the United
States, Europe and Israel; he
writes regularly for AJCom-
mittees publications, and he
participates in the training of
senior lay and professional
leadership in areas of
public-policy education and
advocacy.
Bookbinder will provide a
special briefing on the pros-
pects for the next two years

The Jewish -Theological
Seminary is in the midst of a
year-long centennial program
featuring academic confer-
ences and public programs in
dozens of cities across the
country.
The Michigan friends will
hold "A Day at the Seminary
in Detroit One More Time,"
on Nov. 23 at 10 a,m. at Adat
Shalom Synagogue.
All participating will have
the choice of two out of three
classes conducted by profes-
sors from the seminary.
Speakers will be Dr. David
Kraemer, assistant professor
of talmud, who will teach
"Are Mitzvot Really That
Important?"; Dr. Anne
Lapidus Lerner, dean of the
Albert A. List College of
Jewish Studies, who will
teach "Reflections on the
Akedah"; and Dr. Jack
Wertheimer, associate profes-
sor of Jewish history, who
will discuss "Anti-Semitism
... Is America Different?"
Dr. Kraemer received his
B.A. degree from Brandeis
University, where he was
graduated summa cum laude
with highest honors in Near
Eastern and Judaic studies.
After receiving his M.A. in
Talmud and Rabbinics at the
Jewish Theological Seminary,
Dr. Kraemer continued to
complete his Ph.D., degree
which was awarded with dis-
tinction.
Dr. Lerner, also assistant
professor of Hebrew litera-
ture, has served for the past
six years as associate dean of
the graduate school.
