to do is pick up the phone. I
didn't come here expecting to
live like an American with
all the material comforts, I
went up to the land to be an
Israeli."

Shcharanskys
Name Their
Daughter Rahel
CONRAD LOU IS- CHARLES
Jerusalem (JTA) — The
daughter born to Avital and
Natal Shcharansky here was
named Rahel, during Sabbath
services at a Jerusalem
synagogue last week. She was
named for a sister of her
paternal grandmother, Ida
Milgrom. She is the couple's
first child.
The 5.2 pound baby girl
was born by cesarian section
to Avital at Misgav Ladach
Hospital. The couple were
reunited last February after
Shcharansky spent nine years
in Soviet prisons an labor
camps.
The proud father told
reporters at the hospital
shortly after the birth that
his daughter is "a very
beautiful little girl." He went
so far as to say she is "an ex-
act copy" of her dad.
