preceding the dinner and a
multi-media presentation
that depicted past and cur-
rent aspects of the honorees'
lives, the history of the con-
gregation and highlighted ac-
tivities that comprise the
congregation's contemporary
expression of Judaism.
The dinner program also
included a toast to Israel by
Metro Detroit Israel Bond
general chairman Douglas
Schubot, a musical selection
by Cantor Chaim Najman
and greetings by Dr. Conrad
Giles, president of the Jewish
Welfare Federation of De-
troit.
Following the presentation
of the Peace Medal, Rabbi
Groner responded, "We offer
our heartfelt gratitude to all
who shared in the unforgett-
able celebration.
"We cherish your friend-
ship; we are uplifted by your
confidence; we are over-
whelmed by the outpouring of
your caring and affection.
How can we adequately ex-
press our thanksgiving for
the blessing of Divine Provi-
dence which brought us to
this community marked by
such great resources and
commitment? Our lives have
been deeply influenced by the
loyalty, devotion and aspira-
tion of Cong. Shaarey Zedek
that has, in course of 125
years, not only served its
membership but has also as-
sumed its responsibility for

the community, for Israel, for
the Jewish people and for
America.
"Faith makes all things
possible. Love makes all
things easy. We came to De-
troit in 1959, but these years
have sped by because of the
warm affection and shared
purpose which have been bes-
towed upon us.
"We shall ever strive to
confer these precious gifts
upon all with whom we share
life."
