Fashioning New Bonds

"Israel Bonds provide economic
strength for peace," read the banner
above the podium last week at the
1986 State of Israel Bonds fashion
show and luncheon at Shaarey
Zedek. Another banner could have
said, "Israel Bonds create exciting
fashiOns for export."
About 200 women watched this
annual event, sponsored by the Met-
ropolitan Detroit Israel Bonds
Women's Division, featuring exotic
bathing suits to elegant evening
wear.
The show's popularity is a
catalyst for both new Bond pur-
chases and payment of Bond com-
mitments made earlier in the year.

Every guest has, either at some time
during 1986 or just prior to the
show, made a minimum $500 Bond
investment as a prerequisite for
attendance," says Marilyn Frumkin,
publicity director for State of Israel
Bonds.
Although fewer people attended
the fashion show this year, the 1986
bond purchases doubled from prev-
ious years. We have generated just
under $1 million this year," says
Barbara Stollman, Women's Division
chairman. Stollman attributes this
increase to the high interest rate of
Israel Bonds and the fantastic sup-
port for the State of Israel.
In the North American tour of
60 cities by the Israel Company for
Fairs and Exhibitions, Detroit is a
priority city for this event because

the Women's Division here is so
supportive.
Fashion show chairman Meryl
Podalsky introduced the show and
thanked the management of North-
land Center for underwriting the
entire cost.
The Israeli fashions included 13
key designers. The Gottex bathing
suits were, as always, stunning and
colorful. The crowd applauded the
supple and sumptuous leather clo-
thing of designers Tadmor and
Gingette. The leathers and suedes
were in every color of the rainbow.
For evening, the leathers were
metallic, and for casual dress they
ranged from earth tones to rainbow
hues. A wedding dress designed by
Gideon Oberson was a highlight.
