Susie Engelman, chairman of Celebrity Bag Day, "bags"
sportscaster Fred McLeod at the National Council of Jewish
Women's event at Tel-12 Mall, held in advance of the Fashion
Spree. Celebrities donated clothing to be sold at the fashion
event.

"Fashion Spree," a sale of
"gently worn" clothing, re-
turns Sunday and Monday to
the Southfield Civic Center.
Sponsored by the Greater
Detroit Section, National
Council of Jewish Women,
this sixth annual clothing
sale usually draws 3,000-
4,000 customers, some from
as far as Flint. The sale runs
from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on
both days.
Two hundred N.C.J.W. vol-
unteers work throughout the
year on the event, as well as
at the actual sale. Shoppers
can choose from more than
100 racks of clothing, includ-
ing boutique items and de-
signer fashions. A special de-
partment has been set up for
household goods:
The clothing has been
sorted and housed at the
N.C.J.W. Depot in Oak Park.
The project is a major
fund-raiser for the section.
All proceeds will help to sup-
port the group's community
service programs, which in-
clude Kosher Meals on
Wheels, interest-free loans
for needy Jewish college stu-
dents, and the section's
newest project, which pro-
vides assistive hearing de=
vices to Sinai Hospital in-
patients. The section also op-
erates SPACE (for single
parent families), Victim Serv-
ice Council, and LAW (Legal
Alternatives for Women).
"Fashion Spree" is or-
ganized by the organization's
Ways and Means Depart-
ment, headed by Vice
President Marsha Zucker.
Claire Kretchmer is chair-
man of this year's sale.

According to Mrs. Kretch-
mer, Fashion Spree is the
NCJW's biggest fund-raiser
of the year. This year, there
will be an entire rack of
celebrity clothes and more
than 100 furs "in wonderful
condition, donated from
members."
Gently used and new
clothes from retailers also
will be sold at Fashion Spree.
For information about the
event or any other N.C.J.W.
project, call NCJW, 258-6000.
