FAMILY ITALIAN DINING & PIZZA Music Study Club To Present Program Of 'Dance Plus Piano' In Southfield Meredith Dincolo Music Study Club of Met- ropolitan Detroit will present a program of "Dance Plus Piano" at its next meeting Nov. 16 at 3 p.m. at the Southfield Civic Center Au- ditorium. Christopher Carlon, piano Christopher Carlon soloist, and ballet dancers Meredith Dincolo and Lief Lorenz, who are affiliated with Iacob Lascu, ballet mas- ter and choreographer, will Lief Lorenz perform the Grand Pas de Deux from the Nutcracker Suite and Coppelia. Carlon will present a pro- gram of the works of Franz Liszt. Carlon is a graduate of Michigan State University and has a Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan. He is the recipient of numerous awards and has appeared on PBS television. Lorenz began his ballet training with Lascu, and has danced in the Nutcracker an- nual production with the De- troit Symhony Orchestra and Dance Detroit, plus many other of Lascu's choreog- raphies. He is currently a member of the New York based Dinosaur Dance Com- pany, and continues his studies with David Howard. Dincolo is a freshman at Andover High School in Bloomfield Hills. She began her ballet studies at age se- ven. Since moving to Detroit in 1980 she has been a stu- dent of Lascu. For the past two summers she was selected to study at the School of American Ballet in New York City, and has been invited to return for next summer. Lascu has studied classical ballet, character dance and folklore in his native Romania and with Russian masters Ivan Kirilov and Igor Smirnov of the Bolshoi Thea- ter of Moscow. He has taught ballet at Oakland University in addition to his full time position at Marygrove Col- lege. Lascu also manages his own ballet studios. Music Teachers Name Stasson For State Honor Jerome Stasson of South- field, violinist, teacher, or- chestra conductor and music administrator, has been named Michigan 'Teacher of the Year" by the Michigan Music Teacher's Association. Stasson has been the Michigan. State String Chairman since 1974 and is nationally certified. His many honors include "Teacher of the Year" from the Detroit Musicians League in 1985 and a testimonial resolution by the Detroit City Council "for his contribution to the arts and excellence in performance by his students in 1982." He has been the director of the Detroit High School Hon- ors Symphony Orchestra and the Detroit Public School Opera Orchestra for perform- ances of the "Evening of Fine Arts." In 1962, he organized the Cong. Shaarey Zedek Youth Symphony which re- ceived national recognition as the only synagogue group in the United States.
