' ersity's Creative Writing
Program has a new schol-
arship in honor of an impris-
\\ oned Russian poet who coin-
cidentally was released the
day the scholarship was an-
nounced.
Detroiter Sol P. Lachman,
a graduate of the university's
master's program in creative
writing, was on campus Oct.
10 for a poetry reading and to
announce his gift of $2,500
for the creation of a schol-
arship for poetry students.
That same dap, the poet,
Irina Ratushinskaya, who
had been held in a KGB
prison in Kiev, was freed.
Her release coincided with
the Reagan-Gorbachev sum-
mit held in Iceland.
Lachman's gift will be used
to create the Irina
Ratushinskaya Endowment
Fund which will provide an
annual stipend for book ex-
- penses to a second year
poetry student in the master
of fine arts program.
Earns Fellowship
Former Detroiter Dr. Ber-
nard Levi has been elected a
Fellow of the American Col-
lege of Physicians. He is the
son of Mrs. Ruth Lehman of
Oak Park.
