Greater Detroit Section,
National Council of Jewish
Women, will honor Gerald
Levin, executive director of
the Orchards Children's Serv-
ices, with its Hannah G. Sol-
omon Award.
The award ceremony will
take place at the section's
general meeting, 7:45 p.m.
Nov. 18, at Adat Shalom
Synagogue and will be open
to the community.
David Lawrence, Jr., pub-
lisher and chairman of the
Detroit Free Press, will be the
evening's guest speaker. He
will discuss the impact of to-
day's news and the news
media.
The Orchards, a non-
sectarian program, was
started by NCJW in 1962 to
address the needs of emotion-
ally disturbed children and
their families.
Levin has served as execu-
tive director of the Orchards
since 1966. He received both
his B.A. and M.A. degrees
from the University of Michi-
gan. Within the community,
he has served as a consultant
on numerous commissions re-
lated to youth services, edu-
cation and juvenile justice.
He has also served as a uni-
versity field instructor and
advisor in a variety of social
work programs.
Southfield Parks and Rec-
reation will host a ski trip for
residents of Southfield and/or
students in grades 10-12 from
Feb. 20 to 22 at Schuss
Mountain Resort.
Cost of the trip includes
round-trip charter bus trans-
portation; two nights accom-
modations, based on double
occupancy; two breakfasts;
Saturday night dinner; two
ski lift tickets.
Registration deadline is
Feb. 3. For information and
application, call the parks
and recreation office, 354-

three-months' winter experi-
ence in Israel for retirees

in Florida or Arizona, the
program provides for the re-
tirees to spend three months
(from December to March, or
January to April) in
Natanya, Israel's "Riviera" in
a four-star hotel on a full-
board basis.
Participants will be offered
a four-hour voluntary work-
program such as auxiliary
work in a hospital, tutoring

turned from Israel where she
dedicated a grove of 1,000
trees in memory of her hus-
band, Max. The grove is
planted in the American In-
dependence Park outside the
city of Jerusalem.
Mr. Katz, active in numer-
ous charities in Detroit, died
last June.
Mrs. Katz is active in B'nai
B'rith, the Ladies of Oak
Park and Wives of Masons.
She has two children and
three grandchildren.
