"Strengthening Judaism" is
the theme of the eighth bi-
ennial conference of the
Northeast Lakes Council of
the Union of American He-
brew Congregations, to be
held this weekend at the
Novi Hilton Hotel.
Delegates from 70 Reform
congregations in Michigan,
Ohio, Indiana, New York and
Pennsylvania will meet with
national leaders, hold work-
shops and participate in dis-
cussions on the convention
theme.
keynote
Conference -
speaker will be Lydia Kukoff,
national director of the Out-
reach program to converts
and non-Jews, who will speak
at a luncheon planned for
noon.
Following Shabbat dinner
at the Hilton, delegates will
participate in Sabbath serv-
ices at Temple Beth El,
where Albert Vorspan, vice-
president of the UAHC, will
speak.
Saturday's program will in-
clude a morning service at
the hotel, in which Rabbi
Paul Yedwab, of Temple Is-
rael, and Rabbi Marc Blu-
menthal, of Temple Beth El,
will lead members of local
youth groups in an original
service.
Dr. Michael Cook, professor
of intertestamental literature
at Hebrew Union Co'lege-
Jewish Institute of Religion
in Cincinnati, will deliver a
sabbath lecture on "How Our
Worlds Divided," a reference
to the diversity of religious
expression in today's world.
The morning's theme will
continue at a luncheon, to be
addressed by Rev. Doug Evett
of Ann Arbor, whose topic
will be "What Keeps Us
Apart." Rev. James , Lyons,
founder and director' of the
Ecumenical Institute, will
speak on "What Brings Us
Together."
Annette Daum, associate
director of the UAHC social
action commission, will lead
the afternoon study and dis-
cussion sessions. At a ban-
quet to be held Saturday
