TOP QUALITY FOOD
AT LOW PRICES SINCE 1954!

A BIG DIFFERENCE
NOW A Golden Palace, Far-
rell Shopping Plaza, South-
field and 12 1/2 Mile, as res-
taurant has been remodeled
... and reversed ... Booths
and dining room have been
switched from one side to an-
other ... with seating for
about 70 people now in front
of a new red back wall drape,
and surroundings of pictures,
lanterns and comfortable in-
timacy ... Other side that
was formerly the dining room
area is now used for banquets
... unless overflow business
takes space ... Back wall
here is black draped ... all
tables, with lanterns as other
side ... The entrance wall
has been covered with a
white-textured wallpaper and
both rooms are separated by
a half-wall with short posts
and lattice work.
Golden Palace is very much
a "sleeper" in the realm of
Oriental cuisine ... with ex-
cellent and polite service to
go with ultra cleanliness,
very good food ... and so
much more light than prev-
iously.
This month is its second
anniversary ... owned by
Sheck Szeto, who proudly
does the kitchen chores ...
and ably run by his young
folks, son, Gee, and daughter,
Lisa.
Recent visit there was to
see this transformation ...
and to try something that
cannot be gotten anywhere
else ... Sheck calls it simply
"House Chicken" on his menu
... but it could stand a much
more glamorous name.
He marinates fresh chicken
in his own special sauce and
quickly stir-fries it in a wok
at high temperature to get
the chicken finished at same
time as • the vegetables ...
The chicken is served diced,
with oodles of very fresh
cubed carrots, Chinese golden
mushrooms (superb!), pea
pods, green peas and bamboo
shoots.
Sheck marinates the chic-
ken two hours and has it
ready to be cooked for the
many people who request this
very fine dish ... The faint
whisp of a sauce gives it a
wonderful taste ... and the
vegetables used are all fresh
... not canned.
• You won't get this dish
anywhere else ... Young gal
at table near ours said, "I
never liked carrots all that
much before, but these sure
are great!"
• WAS FIRST ANNIVER-
SARY recently of Mr. Deli
and Salad Queen ... owned
by Joel Siegal, former loca-
lite, and wife Heather of To-
ronto ... It's on the corner of
Duffern and Steeles in To-
ronto ... (mailing address is
Downsville, Ont.)
Joel's proud dad, Sam, who
moved back to Southfield
from North Hollywood, Calif.,
joins many others with high
praise for his son's and
daughter-in-law's food ...

And although a very suc-
cessful operation, says Sam,
no increase in prices since
opening ... "Two people can
have early bird specials for
$10.99," he writes, "and what
a dinner! They walk out with
doggy bags."
Mr. Deli and Salad Queen
business card sent by Sam
reads, "Joel M. Siegel, D.G.F.
(Doctor of Good Foods)" and
"Heather Siegel, Q.S. (Queen
of Salads)."

Year Award — Business!
Industry Category ... The

cent ARC/Michigan annual
banquet in Lansing.
Each year, the ARC honors
employers who have made it
a policy to hire the mentally
retarded ... "We've employed
mentally retarded persons
since the company began and
have found them to be ex-
ceedingly dependable and
pleasant to work with," says
C.A. Muer president Chuck
Muer ... Northville Char-
ley's currently has four men-
tally retarded employees.

in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois,

ager for the Cochrans ... and

Fred in Deerfield, Fla.
