THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

LISA LAPIDES does more
than public relations work for
firms ... She's single herself,
but loves to help others get
together ... Latest is Susan
Master and David Mendelson,
who she "fixed up" with a
date in January ... They'll
walk the middle-aisle April 4.
FROM A BASEMENT
operation to a top-notch retail
store ... • This is "It's The
Gifts" that so many folks
have been waiting for at Or-
chard Mall, Orchard Lake
Rd. and Maple ... No more
boxes and boxes at the homes
of owners Donna Apple and
Elaine Rosenblatt as they
waited to open ... Gifts for
all ages have finally been un-
crated to put on display.
Donna was the gal working
in her basement until things
got too crowded ... Neighbor
Elaine, who had been helping
her at shows, is now Donna's
partner in their new opera-
tion ... with everything from
gift baskets to cards to stuf-
fed animals to games to
radios to photo albums ... to
personalizing, etc. .. : includ-
ing champagne and wine
bottles cleverly filled with
candy and jelly beans ...
Thousands of items even in-
clude phones that look like
apples!
CONGRATS . . . to
Pauline Weiss ... on her
birthday.
CAROL MITCHELL is
now manager at all-new Sac-
chi on the Boardwalk, Or-
chard Lake Rd., south of
Maple ... Many changes
have taken place at `Sacchi's
since Jeff and Lowell Schultz
took over in February of this
year.
GET WELL WISHES ...
to Max Reichstein ... re-
cuperating at home after
Sinai Hospital back surgery.
FERN TATELMAN has
been to Europe many times
... and speaks as an
authority when saying that
Victoria's at Sugar Tree, Or-
chard Lake Rd. north of
Maple, has the European look
both in women's clothing and
the store decor ... Only one
of its kind in the United
States was designed by loca-
lite Jon Greenberg ... with
all glass fixtures, large dres-
sing rooms not usually found,
etc. ... Gloria's Boutique,
owned by Gloria Stone, is
also inside Victoria's, with
costume jewelry, crystal and
ivory.
MAIL DEPT. . . . "My
mother, Frieda Nemon, came
for a visit for the holidays
and also to celebrate her 93rd
birthday.
"She is in relative good
health and is active in many
Jewish organizations yet in
the San Francisco area,
where my brother also lives.
She is active in Hadassah,
Pioneer women, Friendship
Circle, two synagogues and
sews for the poor, a program
including Christians and
Jews.
"She was born in Galicia

and fled there from the Cos- \
sacks with eight brothers and J/
sisters and parents to Vie-
nna, Austria. Then fled Hit-
ler and lost her husband in
the Holocaust and came to
the U.S.A. where I brought
her and my brother after the
war. She was in London dur-
ing the war and lived there
during the bombings. In Vie-
nna she was vice president of (\
WIZO before the war."
John Nernon
REMEMBER EDEE
MOSS? . . . Those who
thought she had dropped out
of sight can find her now at
Greg Shoes in Evergreen
Plaza., 12 Mile and Evergreen
... The sister and right-hand
gal of Al Kaftan at former
Al-Kay Jewelers, has opened
Edee's Boutique at Gregg's of
Southfield.
WHAT ARE DREAMS
made of? ... To most of us,
they do not represent some-
thing we necessarily need for
day-to-day living ... But for
a child who needs delicate
surgery in order to have a
healthy, happy life, dreams
might be the only hope for
the future ... This Wednes-
day, a dream will come true
for hundreds of children who
rely on Children's Hospital to
make their dreams come true
... thanks to Bernie Moray.
"Dream Makers" will 'be a
black tie event sponsored by
Bernie'sGorman's Gallery of
Southfield on Telegraph at 12
Mile ... to benefit children's
Hospital in the celebration of
its 100th anniversary ...
raising funds to assist in
reaching the goal of $75,000
needed to purchase a new
Cavitron ultrasonic surgical
aspirator (CUSA) . . . new
technologically-advanced in-
strument used in brain
surgery for children.
It is an instrument that
allows delicate surgery to be
performed on young children
without damage to healthy,
surrounding tissue ... Since
Children's Hospital is not
state-supported, private fun-
draising permits it to pur-
chase expensive but vital
equipment such as the
CUSA.
Gorman's will bring back
its celebrity showrooms for
this evening, with the unveil-
ing to take place night of
event ... 7 p.m.
Live auction will be by
WXYZ-TV anchor Bill Bonds
... dancing with Bess Bon- n'
vier and Stanley Johnson
rhythms, and refresh-
ments ...
It'll be at Gorman's Gallery
on Telegraph ... $100 per
ticket info can be gotten by
calling the store, 353-9880.
"My grandchild has bene-
fited from the incredible serv-
ices of Children's Hospital
and its staff, and I would
hope that this fundraiser
-could, in some way, repay by
debt of gratitude for their
contribution to her health
and well-being over the last
seven years," says Bernie.
